Revenue & Taxes
Manage your PAYE, avoid Emergency Tax, and claim Tax Credits.
💸 Managing Your Taxes (Revenue)
In Ireland, the tax authority is called Revenue. As an employee, you typically pay tax via the PAYE (Pay As You Earn) system.
🚨 Avoid 'Emergency Tax'!
If your employer doesn't have your PPSN or your job isn't registered with Revenue, you might be put on Emergency Tax, which can take up to 40% of your paycheck!
How to fix it:
💰 Tax Credits & Refunds
Tax credits reduce the amount of tax you pay. Common credits include:
* Personal Tax Credit: For every resident.
* PAYE Tax Credit: For those working in employment.
* Rent Tax Credit: You can get money back (up to €750+ per year) if you pay for private rent!
🎓 Tuition Tax Relief (Level 8 & 9)
If you pay for an approved Level 8 (Undergraduate) or Level 9 (Masters/Postgrad) course, you can claim tax relief!
* How much?: 20% tax relief on qualifying fees.
* Limit: Up to €7,000 per person per course can qualify.
* Note: The first €3,000 (for full-time) or €1,500 (for part-time) is disregarded from the total claim.
